Red Dead Redemption 2 Online
Tips, Strategies, and Workarounds
Private Sessions in 60 Seconds:
I’ve been focusing on getting the story section finished so believe me, there is more to come for this page. I plan on starting over completely from scratch to build this page step by step so keep checking back. However, I must get this valuable tip on here which has brought back my love for the online version of this game. We all know that the second biggest problem, aside from the lack of new content, is the flood of modders either stressing the servers, harassing everyone, or just making the online game unplayable. Of course, if we could get private sessions like in GTA V, we’d be good to go. Since Rockstar doesn’t care about us Red Dead junkies the pirate comes out in me. I’ve been testing this workaround for a private session which works extremely well!
I’m honestly saddened that we must use these workarounds, I do like running into other players, helping other possies, and the adrenaline when there is another player nearby and you don’t know if you’re going to get attacked or not. I’m going to apologize now to all the console players out there since this workaround isn’t going to help you. There are other methods to do this though that work on consoles involving multiple players and card tables. This is just another pro of being a PC gamer. This workaround is easy and never wears off. If you want to go back online with everyone else, you have to delete the file that the video below shows you how to make. As long as the file is there, you will only log into RDR2 Online solo unless you use a password that someone else is using. If you want to log back into the main servers, simply delete the file from the game folder.
This workaround works and I’ve had no issues for about two months now. I got one warning while logging in about using external files. I deleted it, logged in for about 30 minutes without it, logged out, copied the file back into the folder, and haven’t gotten a warning since. I’m telling you it’s like a new world. Everything works flawlessly and random events happen like clockwork. Legendary animals spawn all over the place, seriously this is the way the game should be played.
I want to give a shout-out to JaredAF on YouTube for posting this. It seems to be sort of common knowledge, but I’ve been all over the internet looking for solutions and this is the only place that I’ve found this method, so I’m giving credit where credit is due. Thank you so much JaredAF for posting and sharing this invaluable technique!

Once your startup.meta is created, you can edit it using Notepad to change the password if you need or want to. Again, using someone else’s password will allow you to join their private session. Make up your own to go in alone unless you give your password to your friends. For example I’m giving you my private session password below so you can join mine.
I suggest leaving your startup.meta file on your desktop and copy it from there into your game folder when you need it.
NOTE: Once your startup.meta file is completed change it to open with Notepad to edit and change the password when you need to.
If any of you would like to join me online then you can use the password below. I won’t change it unless a major griefer or any modders start using it. I will update the password on the page if that happens. If any of you would like to share your passwords feel free to shoot me an email with your in-game name, posse, and password. I will gladly list them on the page.
